I was in the Sacramento area for work and found myself with about 8 hours of downtime before my flight left for home. Lake Tahoe was only 2 1/2 hours away so I made the drive. When you hit Lake Tahoe from the West side of the lake the beauty smacks you in the face. It's gorgeous! The mountains rise around it and the lake nestles in the crevice.
If you are feint of heart, the drive along the switchbacks at the South end of the lake might now be for you. The road rises up and cuts back and forth with such steep inclines on the side that the speed limit is 10 mph and you are not tempted to speed in the least! The views are amazing.
I had to finally tear myself away and head back to the airport in Sacramento. As I was leaving the area though, this white water river paralleled the road on the left side. At one point, I had to pull over and climb down for a picture. The sun was starting to set so shadows played across the ridges. A painters dream! This is my interpretation...
